Wallace Project

The brief: practical, functional + green

About the project

When the owners of this charming Californian Bungalow came to us for help updating their bathroom and laundry, we knew just what to do! Over the years, they had attempted to make some DIY touch-ups, but the result was a mismatched jumble of cedar wood paneling, white tiles, and various shades of brown. Our clients were eager for something practical, yet brimming with personality. We aimed to update the spaces with contemporary materials while still paying homage to the home's original period interior details. By introducing a pop of green, we were able to emphasize the beautiful fernery surrounds. The walnut-inspired vanity perfectly complemented the hardwood flooring, while a vintage fluted glass wall fixture added just the right touch of ambience (and doubles as a night light). We also added a nib wall, a second toilet, a walk-in shower, and floor-to-ceiling tiles, along with a transparent cavity door to give the space a modern edge. In the laundry, we incorporated built-in storage, an extended bench top, and a matching green subway tile to create a cohesive flow with the bathroom. And let's not forget the most exciting find - an antique washing board from the 1910s, which we discovered hidden beneath the laundry floorboards! With careful attention to the home's rich history, we were able to transform these spaces into functional and fun oases that perfectly embody Nikki Weedon Interior's passion for colour, textures and design.
