Superette HQ, Takapuna New Zealand - Material Creative

"For the office HQ our vision was to create a space that would speak of the essence of Superette – a trove of objects of desire. That essence is threaded through the space, with a twist of laid-back Hampton’s detailing. The materials are soft and luxe. Gold, white washed timber and louver details are woven through the design. You feel like you have entered someone’s beach retreat rather than the fast pace office of New Zealand’s leaders of the retail industry. The office is centered on a kitchen pod. It’s the heart of the space, the place for congregating, collaborating and endless amounts of entertaining. We were savvy with the use of materials specifying the marble look splash back, gold plex cupboards, and brass handles that we sourced from a vintage store. For the storage cupboards we had our joiners make bespoke louvered doors with Ikea handles that the client picked up on a buying trip while overseas. We wanted to keep the sense of space within the office when we created the showroom and meeting rooms. The solution to this was using large glass partitions and sliding doors within whitewashed timber frames. The perimeter windows still let in light even while the meeting rooms are in use. We created two unique looks within the bathrooms. The men’s is dark and brooding, with black tiles, a dark vanity top with brass tap-ware and a photograph of surfers in the ocean, which we blew up and applied to the walls. The ladies are light and bright, with white tiles, a light vanity top with the same brass tap-ware and animal print wallpaper we imported for Superette. The desks and furniture are kept simple, much like the stores furniture. A mix of white powder-coated steel tubing, black chairs and light oak and whitewashed timber. A backdrop to the curious treasures collected and curated by the directors over the 14 years of business." - material creative / larnie nicolson
